Come and be part of our school community
Are you interested in working at Cocos Islands District High School?
Working at our school is a unique opportunity to become part of a close-knit school and island community. Our staff work across our Home Island and West Island campuses and play an important role in supporting our students, families and wider community.
If you are considering making the move to Cocos, we encourage you to get in touch with us. We are always happy to have a conversation about what working and living on Cocos is really like and to help you decide whether it could be the right fit for you.
Teaching Positions
Teaching staff at Cocos Islands District High School are employed through the Western Australian Department of Education’s recruitment and selection processes.
Each year, teaching vacancies are generally advertised around Term 3 through the Jobs WA government employment website. Positions are subject to the staffing needs of the school and Department of Education recruitment processes.
If you are interested in joining our teaching team, we encourage you to:
- Explore our school website and learn more about our school and community.
- Review our school plans, policies and key documents to gain an understanding of our priorities and approach to teaching and learning.
- Contact the school and arrange a conversation with our Principal.
- Take the opportunity to ask questions about teaching, living and working in the Cocos Islands.
We strongly encourage prospective applicants to have a conversation with our Principal before applying. Moving to a remote island community is a significant decision, and we want to make sure you have a realistic understanding of the experience and can determine whether teaching in Cocos is really for you.
Living and Working in Cocos
Cocos Islands District High School is a unique place to work. Our small school environment means staff have the opportunity to know their students and families well, work closely with colleagues and become an important part of the wider community.
There are also a range of arrangements and benefits available to eligible Department of Education employees working in regional and remote locations, including Department-provided housing and some regional allowances.
These arrangements can vary depending on individual circumstances and employment conditions. For further information about housing, allowances and other employment conditions, we encourage prospective applicants to speak directly with our Principal.
Local Employment and Volunteering
We also welcome enquiries from people who are already living on the Cocos Islands and are interested in contributing to our school community.
If you are interested in volunteering at the school or working in a support role, such as a relief Education Assistant, please contact the school.
There may be opportunities to support our students and staff depending on our current needs and available positions.
We would love to hear from you!
